Friday's Transfer Update a day late...! 25/4/09

Well, OK, I was busy yesterday!

It's been a busy old week in the StJohn transfer market, with managers all over the world discovering their wage auction bargains were not what they expected, or finding their season in need of rescue.

Five huge deals are worthy of special mention. The biggest move of the week was a surprise to some, but 19-year old DC/DM Neil McDonald is a genuine class act who will surely give a great long-term return on the £3M CFC FC have paid Phil Foster's Wolverhampton Wonderers for his services.

The other four players in £2M+ moves were all strikers:
  • Robert Acquafresca moved from Flanders Angels to Victorian Queue for £2.2M
  • Robin van Persie left Boshka Start to sign up at Tyne and Wear Boys for £2M
  • Marcelo Moreno left Victorian Queue for £2M to set up his stall at Natural Born Losers
  • Giampaolo Pazzini survived a transfer scare, when he nearly moved to the Frecheville Blades before a last minute change of heart saw him make a £2M move to AFC Victoria from Indefatigable FC
In total, there were twenty one 7-figure deals in StJohn this week. The Steal of the Week may well be Lucas Lobos' £375K move to Tea Gharr. The 31 year old AMC has nabbed 22 goals and 12 assists in his first 37 games, with a 7.41 average! Tea Gharr manager Martin George must be over the moon.

Hot off the press: As I type this, the world class Fabio Quagliarella has moved from Victorian Queue to Amaranth FC for a stonking £3.8M!

The Amaranth manager, Chris Parkin, said he thought Quaglirella was the 'biz', and rightly seemed very pleased with his side's acquisition. Will this move see the end of a busy period of transfers at Ian Bush's VQ? Somehow, with a sizeable war chest behind the club - we think not!
